An Updated Classic - The Wingback Chair

Posted on January 03, 2017 by Donna Behrens | 0 Comments

The Wingback Chair. You might remember one or two of these formal chairs in your living room as you were growing up. (Not that you were ever allowed to sit on them.) But don't let that stop you from exploring the option today. There are plenty of updates to this traditional chair that will fit into your modern décor.

Gus Modern Elk Chair
This definitely isn't your grandmother's wingback chair. With their use of a bent plywood seat and back, Gus Modern has elevated the wingback to a show stopper.

 Four Hands Marlow Chair

Still elegant and classy, the Marlow Chair brings the wingback into today with its beautiful jewel toned blue velvet and tapered walnut legs.

Caracole High Powered Chair

The name says it all. This update with the high back and quirky personality makes a statement.

Global Views Iron/Leather Wing Chair

All the essence of a wing back chair carefully deconstructed in metal and leather.

Sunpan Frances Chair

A wingback with no arms?  Who knew! This is perfect for a room with limited space and has the substance needed for those open concepts.

What will be the colors of 2017?

Posted on December 29, 2016 by Donna Behrens | 0 Comments

No one knows for sure but based on what we are seeing, there are three distinct colors set to take center stage for 2017.

Green:

Pantone's color of the year is sure to show up everywhere from sofas to hand towels.  The bright green inspired by nature makes a great complement to the golds we saw make a huge come back last year.

Beige:

That is right.  Back is the beige neutral most have cast aside for the modern grey palette that has taken center stage for the past decade.  This warm neutral looks great in multiple shades and sets off natural elements like wood and cork perfectly.

Sapphire Blue:

We are set to see a beautiful array of jewel tones come back into style. We think the most versatile and lovely will be sapphire. It acts as a neutral and looks great with almost everything.

Let's Talk Texture

Posted on July 22, 2016 by Donna Behrens | 0 Comments

There is no doubt that the interior design world is going crazy over texture.  Mixture textures is huge and here at Mod House, we think that this trend it here to stay.  It might be an easy thing for the pros but how can you effortlessly put this trend to work in your home?  Here are a few tips that will have you mixing it up in no time.

  1. Think outside the box. Have a big boring wall?  Try some interesting wallpaper (yes it is back and we all have to accept that).  Believe us when we tell you that the modern designs are not your grandmother's wallpaper.  It you still aren't sure, go for a self adhesive type that can easily be peeled off.
  2. Not sure what to do about that old sofa or chair you haven't gotten around to replacing?  Try throwing a big faux fur throw, pillow, or sheepskin on it and watch it transform.
  3. Plants!  Not only are they good for you, cleaning the air and making you happy, they can add a ton of interest to a space.  Just be careful of the plants you pick if you have pets.
  4. Luxurious Fabrics: Velvet, Satin, Leather...The list is too long but we love them all.  They can transform a space from boring to fabulous in a matter of seconds.  Try a leather rug or a velvet sofa.  They are sure to be conversation starters.  And you get bonus points for going with a bright color.  We love the Margot Sofa by Gus Modern.
  5. Straight from Nature.  Bring the beauty of nature inside with live edge tables, tree stump accent stools, and marble.  These classics are right on trend now but will never go out of style. Looking to start small?  The Macaque Teakwood Vase can be incorporated into any room.
  6. Baskets.  Never underestimate a good basket.  They can keep you organized while looking great.  We love that more are coming from sustainable materials like bamboo and hyacinth.
  7. Boho Fabrics and Weaves. These are great for pillows and wall hangings to add interest, color and texture to a space. The Anaruz Wall Hanging is a great mix of textures with a structural geometric design plus it adds a little glamour with the metallic threads.

3 Ways The Ottoman Is The Most Versatile Piece In Your Home

Posted on May 10, 2016 by Allie Norby | 0 Comments

The ottoman can be the most versatile piece in your home. It can be used as a foot stool, a side table or coffee table, extra seating during a get together or just about anything your heart desires! At Mod House one of our personal favorites and right on trend is the Hyacinth Stool which sells for only $109.00.

Here are 3 ways we have decided to use this versatile and stylish piece!

Use these ottomans at the end of your bed for a natural and stylish effect. Style them with your favorite objects or take a quick seat and put on your favorite shoes!

Place it in front of your favorite chair (which I am sure you also found at Mod House) and use it as your foot rest to lean back, relax, and chat it up with your family and friends!

And last, but certainly not least use it as a side table while you are drinking your morning cup of coffee or afternoon tea!
